Online Sports Betting In Rhode Island’s Budget Mix

Governor Gina Raimondo’s budget plan to allow sports wagering at Rhode Island’s casinos could be expanded to include online and mobile betting, according to an official in her administration.

Raimondo, a Democrat, is banking on sports betting bringing in some $23.5m in state revenue for the 2018-19 fiscal year, which begins July 1, on the assumption that New Jersey will win its Supreme Court challenge to a federal ban and Rhode Island lawmakers will pass a bill legalizing wagering before the ruling is made.
